JobKeeper payments have started.
JobKeeper payments started earlier this month.
If you were enrolled for the first month you should already have seen your payment come through.
If your business is eligible but not yet enrolled, the deadline for enrolment to claim for April and May is 31 May 2020.
To see all upcoming JobKeeper key dates visit the ATO website.
Responsibilities and Records
For those who are enrolled it is important that you continue to meet your responsibilities. Each month the business must lodge a declaration. This includes reporting current and projected turnover and confirming number of eligible employees.
If we acting on your behalf we will lodge your monthly declarations for you. Please ensure you get any requested information to us in plenty of time to meet the deadlines. If we are not acting for you, monthly declarations can also be lodged through the business portal.
Monthly declarations must be lodged between the 1st and 14th of each month. Please note: the later you lodge, the later you receive your payment.
Keeping good records
It is extremely important that you keep good records for JobKeeper.
You should maintain a record of the following:
- How you determined your eligibility. Both the method and the data used. (If we prepared this for you we will also keep a record)
- Signed employee nomination notices.
- Proof of payment of full JobKeeper amount to employees.
- How you estimated projected GST turnover. Both the method and the data used.
Why do you need to keep a record?
There is a high likelihood that the ATO will review a percentage of JobKeeper claims over the course of the next year.
While at this stage eligibility is being self assessed, it is likely that the ATO will review claims at a later date. In the event that your business is selected for review you will need to be able to prove how you determined your eligibility. And also how you administered the payments.
